Andre Watson, a civil engineer at first, is South Africa’s leading referee. He started refereeing in 1987, making the South Africa RFU panel seven years later. He controlled the first Test between Australia and the British and Irish Lions in Sydney in June 2001 and a record six Currie Cup finals.
Watson’s term, ‘Lazy Runners’, has become part of common rugby terminology.
He retired from refereeing international rugby in 2004.
With his tremendous wealth of experience in the international game of Rugby, as a motivational speaker he provides his audiences with humour and great insight into the game and what it takes to become the world’s most respected referee.
