Motivational speaker | Lucas Radebe | Johannesburg
When Lucas Radebe was shot while walking down the street, he and another South African player moved to Leeds United in 1994 where he became a star player and was nicknamed “The Chief” by its fans . In recognition of his leadership and ability, he was appointed captain of the team for the 1998/99 season.
After a successful number of years he sustained knee and ankle injuries, which kept him out of the game for almost two years. He retired from professional football in 2005 and was offered a role on the Leeds coaching staff..
Lucas earned 70 caps for South Africa, he has been an ambassador of FIFA for SOS Children’s Villages; he received the FIFA Fair Play Award in December 2000 and was voted 54th in the Top 100 Great South Africans in 2004.
